Lecture on FMS
Expedition III
Mr. Sunder Hemrajani, President
Distribution at Reliance Capital Ltd. delivered a lecture
on “FMS Expedition III –Overcoming
The Challenges Within”, it was an inspirational
talk on Group Dynamics & Leadership in the Face of Adversity.
Mr. Hemrajani narrated some incidents from his days in FMS
and specifically from ‘the Trek’, an annual ritual
at FMS during those days, where team work and synergy helped
his team overcome some very difficult times and how he was
able to use his learnings from his days at FMS in his job.
Workshop on Corporate Ethics
In the wake of increasingly conscience-focused
marketplaces of the 21st century and the demand for more ethical
business processes and actions Dr. Kavita Singh; faculty for
Organizational Behavior and Professor M.L Singla; Senior faculty
for I.T in Management at FMS, organised a workshop on “Corporate
Ethics”, it was an engrossing session
where students got exposed to various moral and ethical problems
that can arise in a business setting. Various perspectives,
including the perspective of the employee, the commercial
enterprise, and society as a whole was analysed.
The society achieves its objectives by organizing
a series of activities all round the year.
1. The Buddy Relationship We believe when bright students with diverse skill sets join our institute; they should have a fair idea as to what FMS holds for them and what it stands for. They have to be ready for all the demanding situations that an FMSite must face to get fine-tuned to the future realities. The mentorship program is one such initiative. All students in the fresh batch are assigned mentors from the second year as soon as their admission process is complete. The newcomers are free to contact their mentors as well as other seniors for all the queries and doubts they have regarding the life at FMS or any other information. This process facilitates the induction procedure for the students as well as gives them an opportunity to learn from the experiences and the problems faced by their seniors throughout their FMS years as well as in the corporate life ahead.
2. The Visual Quiz A challenge to perform better than Arjun. He did one job - Concentrate. Our teams did two: Concentrate and Visualize. An event filled with nail biting situations, quips and whistles from the classmates - it became a platform to push the lateral thinking capabilities to the MAX.
3. Guest lecture on Corporate Social Responsibility Scandals, faltering CEOs, tarnished top management, exploitation of human and natural resources - some of the frequent news items increasingly becoming obvious to most of us.
But we at FMS take pride in nurturing true leadership qualities among our students. To ensure this, we ran a series of guest lectures emphasizing the importance and the need for Corporate Social Responsibility. Some of the findings revealed during these lectures by Business Community Foundation, an organization working in this field became eye opener for most of us. We realized that a single decision taken does not only affect profitability but also thousands of precious lives, related or unrelated to the decision process.
4. Group discussions and interviews From Sales & Distribution, Marketing to Hedge Funds and NASDAQ - First yearites got to know what all Gyaan they were expected to for their summer placements. But with Urja levels running high, more important was to make them familiar with and introduce them to one of their first interactive processes with the corporate world. To serve this important purpose, we conducted GD's and interview sessions for them with all second year students volunteering in for help.
5. CSR Initiative - TSUNAMIKA
Tsunamika is an initiative which has been undertaken by Praxis in partnership with an NGO and the first part of this initiative will bear fruits when the team of students from FMS reaches Tamilnadu in June 2007. TSUNAMIKA is an effort to rehabilitate families which have been displaced by Tsunami. This project is conceived and executed by Upasana Design Studio of Auroville in the seaside villages of Auroville's bioregion. Nearly 480 fisherwomen from 6 villages are trained and from them around 180 ladies are now creating these little dolls called "Tsunamika".
