As the national economy develops and per capita income rises, the relative share of employment among different sectors changes dramatically in favour of services. Services make up for the bulk of todays economy, not only in the US or Canada, but also in India. Service organizations range in size from huge international corporations based on such enterprises as airlines, banking, insurance, telecommunications and other utilities, transportation and freight service, healthcare and hospitality, software, media houses - in fields ranging from fast foods to health centers. In many of these industries till recently, the government regulations protected the existing players and constrained their ability to develop new markets. However during the past years many such barriers to competition have been removed opening up new opportunities for professional managers. This is the reason we at FMS, offer you a course designed to better prepare you to manage this new future.
Uniqueness in Curricula
You not only specialize in Functional Areas like Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and Operations but also in selected Sectors like Financial Services, Healthcare, Hospitality and Transportation etc. All these are Seminar Courses, led by multiple faculty including practitioner Gurus from the industry and Guest Faculty.
Information technology is changing the nature of service delivery. Recognising these advances we have integrated these to many courses. Besides two core courses in two semesters of the first year ( Information Technology Management, Management of Information System), you also get an opportunity to specialize in the exciting area of Information Technology Enabled Services by choosing from Eight Sector Seminar Courses.
Understanding your Customers is the heart of any service business. This is reflected in the design of this course. Along with a fundamental core paper on Marketing, Marketing of Services is also a Core paper. You shall have the option of choosing functional electives from a bouquet of options that include Direct & Network Marketing, Retail Marketing, Relationship
Marketing etc. Evolving environment of services, changing business trends, governmental policies and social changes are impacting the businesses and creating new rules of the game almost everyday. This programme will keep you up-to-date about what is happening through four courses offered in four semesters (Global Environment in Service Sectors, Business Environment, Emerging Service Sectors). The final semester course (Global/Regional/ Country Study of Services) is very similar to a Project where you would intensively study a particular service business of your choice.
We expect you to be the future leaders who will leave a footprint for others to follow in the continually changing environment. For this, we have created a unique workshop-based course (Leadership and Management of Change). Every semester you shall have one Workshop Course which is very hands-on and relate to practical issues. To keep your creative juices flowing and entrepreneurial spirit soaring, we have created another workshop based unique course (Creativity and Entrepreneurship).
It is very important to examine the ethical issues as they relate to different aspects of service management. We shall have dialogues on morally and legally defensible values to guide the managerial behaviour and to shape their worldview. All these important discussions and dialogue will evolve around a specially designed compulsory course (Business Ethics and Corporate Governance).
Strong managerial orientation and strategic focus, use of conceptual frameworks that have been tested in our flagship MBA course over the last 50 years, incorporation of key academic research findings that have taken place post 1990, use of new example and cases and provision of live projects to link theory to practice etc are all waiting to be experienced by you.
Services are actions or performance where intangible actions always speak louder than the speech or the hallowed promise. Being the first programme of its kind in India, you can hardly get feedback about this programme from previous participants. However if you choose to be a pioneer rather than the follower, join this programme from a pioneering institution.
